Shreddabilly Arpeggios

By T. D. Clark

Whats up all my shreddaholic friends out there in webland? This is T. D. Clark and I am back with my first guitar lesson here at Shredacademy.

Today's lesson is based off the main arpeggio idea that makes the intro/chorus melody for the song, aptly titled Shreddabilly, from my new CD Next Big Adventure.

The first part is in the key of A Major. It is based around an A Major arpeggio and the A Major pentatonic and A Ionian ( Major) scales. There is a bit of string skipping as well. I sweep pick the majority of the lick, even the pivot idea's A E D A E C# A and A E D B A F# C#.

The second part is based around an F# minor arpeggio and the F# minor and Harmonic minor scales as well. It ends in an E major arpeggio that starts on the root note but ends on the 3rd, creating a 2nd inversion feel to the arp. ( The 3rd in the E major arp is the note G# which is the leading tone ( 7th note of the A Ionian (Major scale) that transitions the lick nicely back to its root in the A Major arpeggio.

Practice slowly at first and build up your speed. You can hear the tune at www.myspace.com/tdclark
