Introduction to Touch-Style Tapping

By Zack Kim

For those who have not seen Zack Kim play before, here is a video from YouTube.com where he plays 'Beethoven's Für Elise':

Now, for those who want to learn how to do some of this intensely crazy tapping, here is some beginner exercises!

Firstly, many have the misunderstanding that the technique is a combination of hammer ons and pull offs. This may be true in some cases but the fact is that 95% of the tapping is done with HAMMER ONS only.

Secondly, keep your action in your guitar as LOW as possible. Guitars with good sustain and the use of compressor would help tremendously.

Lastly, it's not as difficult as it looks! It may be tough in the begining but with practice you will be able to get better and enjoy the world of Touch Style Tapping in no time.

And remember to have fun :)

Good Luck
Zack

These two excercises are used mainly to build strength for both hands. Start individually
if you're having difficulty and when you get better, try with both hands simultaneously.
