John "Dr. Hot Licks" Taylor began playing guitar when he was just a few months away from turning 13. Inspired by the main riff of Machine Head by Bush, and his mother Jane's encouragement, John asked his father, Mark, to start teaching him guitar.
Soon after John started playing he became a huge fan of Iron Maiden. Maiden, Helloween, Slayer, and Morbid Angel became his top 4 influences in writing style, and Yngwie Malmsteen gave him the drive to shoot for the fastest guitar player in the world.
Currently, John Taylor has been recognized by the Universal Record Database as the official world record holder for Fastest Guitar Player for playing Flight of the Bumblebee at 600 bpm. The URDB has been described as the wikipedia of Guinness. John is currently awaiting evaluation from Guinness for a record from them.
The Dr. Hot Licks' School of Guitar was founded by John Taylor and is devoted solely to the teaching of rock and metal music for guitar, bass, and drums.
