Roo,
also known as “Romain Chapus”, is a French musician
based in Helsinki, Finland.
He started electric guitar at age 15 under Satriani’s musical
influence. Former student of Laurent Brondel (StrataRecordings),
he graduated from Nancy’s musical creative centre (C.M.C.N-France)
at 20. There, he had the privilege to learn from top guitarists
such as Joey Tafolla, Shawn Lane and many great instructors…
He composed, toured and recorded with many artists and cover-bands
while teaching guitar in a music school and in private for a living.
His stage experience came mostly from this period. After about
five years, he turned off the challenging life of musician and
focused then on other activities and interests… A few times
after moving to Finland and almost 4 years “without playing”
he started from zero in the samples and loops world of Electronic
music. He even got one track reviewed by home-music’s reference
magazine “Computer Music”, and released as well on
the cover DVD.
Next to this, he progressively got the grip back into metal guitar
world, buying new gear, meeting other musicians and practicing
guitar seriously again mixing his recent grooves influences. Different
projects came out then. Irony of fate, his first gig in Finland
was jamming live rock guitar with deejays for a trance music gig…
Today,
Roo focuses on his own instrumental band with the will of a debut
album and on a guitar instructional method. His diversity of styles
leads him to tour with the “DiesIrae Records”’s
Death-Metal band “Codeon” as a session guitarist.
Roo has performed live in France, Finland and Estonia.
